Welcome!

Welcome to the online journal of wedding photography by Richard and Sarah Harris.  We are Capture It!

Through this blog we will show you more of our work, favourite photos from our latest weddings, recommendations for suppliers and venues and general musings on wedding planning and organisation.

Please feel free to add your comments which we shall endeavour to approve without too much of a delay.

We look forward to hearing what you think and hope you enjoy our photography.

Many thanks,

Richard & Sarah

Wedding Photo of 2009

As some of you know, every year we have a friendly little competition between just the two of us to see who got ‘wedding photo of the year’. The problem is that we may choose a particular shot because we know how difficult it was to get it at the time. (e.g. Some of our couples decided to practically run back down the aisle while we were trying to a) overtake them, b) carry all our gear and c) get that all-important aisle shot!)

So, we thought it would be good to get you involved as un-biased judges. Although you may not remain un-biased when we tell you that the winning couple will receive a stunning 10″x8″ table top acrylic photo worth £95.

We’ve narrowed our favourites down to 12. Please leave a comment at the end of the post telling us your favourite and, if you like, why you chose it. It may take a day or two before your comment appears as we have to approve every one in order to foil those pesky spammers. We will count up the votes and announce the winning shot. Naturally, we will count only 1 vote per person commenting or e-mail address (so you can’t say me and my 15 mates vote for numbers 3 and 6).

Voting will close in 4 weeks time or sooner if there’s a clear leader.

Enjoy!

Owain & Helen’s Wedding at the Curradine Barns, Worcestershire

Our first wedding of the year was a last minute booking in the beautiful countryside of Worcestershire.

The weather leading up to the date was not good to say the least and the journey the night before was in torrential rain!! However the Saturday turned into a clear day with some lovely winter sun to warm us up.

Owain and Helen had put so much effort into the little touches for their day which meant that we got some great fun pictures.

Here are Owain and his brother and best man Huw.

Groom and Best Man at wedding

The theme of the wedding was snowflakes and icicles and as we hadn’t had enough snow for the last few weeks (hmmm) a fake snow machine was needed. Ably steered by Dan; one of the ushers!

And so on to the girl’s preparations:

A quick check that everything is running to ‘The Schedule’:

Then on to the serious bit of getting married:

The snow machine was a great success and none of that dangerous ice afterwards:

The scenery around the barns was stunning and we were rewarded with some lovely winter sunshine:

There were several games on hand to amuse the guests, including Jenga:

The snowflake theme was carried on inside the barn:

The guests then released paper lanterns into the sky. Some say that these explain the UFO sightings in nearby Droitwich; we couldn’t possibly comment!

Gate Street Barn Open Day 2010

On Sunday we were at the Gate Street Barn Open Day (see previous post).

It was fabulous day, the weather was stunning, the Barn looked gorgeous and we got to meet lots of new people. Jane, Lisa & Hillary did a fabulous job and we were so impressed with the organisation, attention to detail and friendliness of all there.

The day was very busy and so if you didn’t get to speak to us directly then please give us a call as we’d love to chat about your wedding plans.

We met so many couples planning their special day, some just finalising details for their wedding this year and others just starting their search. The Open Day was great as it showcased many different suppliers who could help with all aspects of the day.

It was also great to meet up with some old friends: Jen & James at Kalm Kitchen (Caterers), Carole at Tandem (Caterers), Chris from Chess (DJ), Gill Pike (Florist), Nick & Claire Stow (Cars), Rupert at Taurus Wines (Independent Wine Merchants) and Antonia from Elle Au Naturel (Make-up and Hair Artist). It was lovely to catch up on their news and see the new products.

Kalm Kitchen had their fantastically gorgeous chocolate brownies on offer, you will never taste a better brownie! Gill Pike had some lovely new flower table decorations which looked stunning and Nick and Claire Stow from Cars for all Occasions had photographs from the Colin Firth new movie which was filmed in London and featured their car. Imagine travelling to you wedding in the very car that Mr Darcy has sat in!!

We also got to meet new people, Rollercoaster (Band), Cranleigh Cupcakes, Talisman Chauffeur Cars, Rae Oakley (Hats), Simon Alexander (Magician) and David from Talisman Chauffeur Cars. We’ve put links to all their websites below.

Cranleigh Cupcakes are a tremendous find, their cakes are stunning with such attention to detail and variety of designs. They can even make bespoke Bride and Groom cake toppers with little touches that show off your personality. All their sales support breast cancer charities as this was the motivating factor behind the start of the company. They are an exceptional find and we hope to write an article about them on our blog in the coming months.

In our quieter times Richard was able to take a few photographs on his mobile phone which you can see below (the cupcakes look especially gorgeous!):

Gate Street Barn Open Day

One of our favourite venues is the lovely Gate Street Barn in Bramley Surrey. Located near Guildford it really is a fabulous venue in the heart of the countryside.

This Sunday, 17th January they have an Open Day and you’re all invited. This is a wonderful opportunity to see this lovely setting, enjoy some stunning scenery, meet lots of lovely wedding suppliers, including florists, caterers, make up artists and a magician. You might even get to sample some yummy food too!

The open day is from 9.30am to 4.30pm and we’re glad to report that there is no snow forecast for this weekend!!

Come and see us and chat about your wedding plans. We’re really looking forward to seeing you there.

Wedding Nerves

So the big day is here, the guests are due to arrive soon and you’re feeling just a little bit tense – what do you do?

We’ve seen several techniques over the years, guys tend to like a pint at the local pub with the groomsmen. Fathers of the brides like that idea too but don’t often get the opportunity!!

Brides enjoy a glass of champagne, a visit to the beauty spa, a couple of drops of ‘Bachs Rescue Remedy’ or a good chat with their friends. Mum’s tend to wander from room to room checking out their hat!

The most novel way of relaxing was Angharad’s approach at her wedding in October. Here’s a picture of her practicing her piano scales just before putting on her makeup!! It certainly worked well for her she was very relaxed by the time she got to the church!
